I just had a brief encounter with a woman who seemed vaguely familiar but who obviously knew me.
Unexpectedly, the longer the conversation went on for, the more it became apparent that she had no idea who she was talking to either, but both of us continued to pretend that we knew who the other person was.
We managed to cover the weather (Awful!), being tired (God, babies never let you sleep!) and her work situation (Out for a break after a stressful morning) before we finally went our separate ways. Those brief three minutes felt like an eternity.
Trying to hide the fact that your brain’s unsuccessfully searching through its catalogue of faces is exhausting.
