Early morning whispers

Benny came to our bed at 4:38 this morning, shouting that he wanted müsli. When I finally convinced him to lay down instead, he gave me the biggest, sweetest hug and then whispered to my face: “Mama, stop breathing. Your breath smells.”
Love, criticism and irrational demands, all mixed into one, very early in the morning.
